A debut on the big World Cup stage can be a daunting prospect for any youngster and coming under fire from a veteran can only make the nerves jangle more. Abbas Afridi had to endure such unfortunate circumstances in Florida on Sunday after Shaheen Afridi was unimpressed by his fielding efforts.

‌‌Pakistan ensured a positive ending to their disastrous T20 World Cup campaign with a resounding bowling effort against Ireland on the back of five wickets in the powerplay. Shaheen Afridi proved to be the destructor-in-chief with sensational figures of 3/16 from his opening three-over spell but the experienced pacer believed he deserved even better if better fielding standards prevailed.

On the final ball of the fifth over, the left-arm quick was driven down the ground by George Dockrell after conceding back-to-back boundaries. Abbas Afridi, playing his first match in the tournament, was stationed at mid-on and was being expectedly watched on by the bowler to stop the Kookaburra in its tracks. However, as the ball approached the edge of the circle, Abbas angled his run away from the white rock to chase it down the ground instead of opting for a dive across the surface, with Babar Azam following closely in his wake. The youngster got to the ball just before it hit the boundary cushions to restrict the Irish to three runs and even though his skipper appreciated the valiant effort, Shaheen hollered down the ground, "Oye, kya kar raha hai? [Hey, what the hell are you doing?]" The rage was writ large on the pacer's face and Abbas could only muster a dejected shrug of the fielders before returning to his position.

Twitterati was quick to criticize Shaheen for his harsh handling of the situation.

Why so angry?
