Indian women’s hockey team suffered a 1-4 defeat to World No.3 Argentina in the second friendly at the CeNard sports complex in Caba, Argentina on Wednesday. The consolation goal for India was scored by Vandana Katarya.

After holding Argentina for a 2-2 draw in the first friendly on Tuesday, Indian eves were defeated by goals from Martina Cavallero, Pilar Romang and a brace from Noel Barrionuevo. Argentina started the match with a flurry of attacks and the constant pressure on the Indian defence led to the goal in the eighth minute. In the second quarter, the World No.3 side increased the lead through Pilar Romang, after a combination play from Carla Rebecchi and Cavallero. Argentina’s third goal came from a penalty corner with Noel Barrionuevo scoring on the 20th minute.

After a goalless third quarter, India started the fourth with a goal from Vandana Katarya. Argentina finished off India with another goal from Noel Barrionuevo in the closing stages to register a comprehensive 4-1 win.

India will now face Argentina U-21 today in the fourth friendly match of the tour.
