A brace from Daryl Duffy in the second half and Haokip’s goal in the 39th minute was enough to help Salgaocar to their first win of the season as they beat newcomers DSK Shivajians 3-2 at Pune. In the other match of the day, Odafa's brace helped Sporting Clube de Goa defeat Mumbai FC 3-2 at home.

DSK Shivajians vs Salgaocar

Starting Line-ups:

DSK Shivajians: Prosenjit Ghosh (GK), Melwin Lobo, Haroon Amiri, Ralte, Mohd Sajid Dhot, Douhou Pierre (C), Barraso, Baljit Sahni, Surchandra Singh, Mohammed Rafi, Sampath Kuttymani

Salgaocar: Karanjit Singh (GK) (C), Éder, G. Kumar, Keenan Almeida, Augustin Fernandes, R. Singh, M. Scott, Calvin Mbarga, Thongkhosiem Haokip, D. Duffy, G. Oliveira

An embarrassing 1-4 defeat in the midweek against table toppers Bengaluru FC had sucked all the confidence DSK had earned from the Maharashtra derby win, and coach Derrick Pereira expected a much better performance against Salgaocar, who were placed last in the league. But it was the Santosh Kashyap side that took the lead in the match with former Pune FC striker Thongkhosiem Haokip scoring the first goal for his new club. Martin Scott whipped in a corner and found Duffy, who drilled the ball towards the goal, and Haokip poked the ball into the goal from the melee that ensued.

It was 2-0 in the first minute of the second half with the provider of the first goal, Duffy, tapping the ball from close range. Haokip turned provider this time by sending a beautiful cross into the box for his partner to cash in. Duffy finished off the match in the 70th minute by adding another to his kitty with Jakichand Singh providing the ball for his second. DSK forward Dipanda scored a brace in the last fifteen minutes to mount a comeback from the home side. But it proved to be too late as Salgaocar held their nerves in the final few minutes to register their first win of the season.

Sporting Clube de Goa vs Mumbai FC

Starting Line-ups:

Sporting Clube de Goa: Arindam Bhattacharya, Enyinnaya, Ravanan, Cardozo, Wadoo, Devadas, Thakur, Mahmoud Amnah, Masceranhas, Fernandes, Odafa (c)

Mumbai FC: Pawan (GK), Ramu, Son, Pratik, Allan, Anwar Ali, N.P. Pradeep (c), Arata, Brown, Kozawa, Sushil Singh

Both teams went into the game after suffering draws during midweek, and the away side made the better start to the match with Sushil Kumar Singh opening the scoring. Eric Brown’s inswinging corner found Sushil kumar in the middle, and the striker poked it in from close range to put the visitors 1-0 up. But the lead lasted only seven minutes as Nicholas Fernandes levelled things up in the 24th minute. Odafa wiggled away from the Mumbai defenders and found Nicholas in the left, and he fired it to the left of Pawan Kumar to send the home fans into a frenzy.

Sushil Kumar Singh once again put Mumbai ahead in the 57th minute after Arata Izumi put the striker through on goal in what was a classic counter-attack by the away team. Sushil dinked the ball above Arindam Bhattacharya in the Sporting goal to restore Mumbai’s lead. However, it was back to level in the 74th minute after Mumbai FC defender brought Glan Martins in the box to give Odafa a chance from the penalty spot. The Sporting skipper stepped up and calmly slotted it past Pawan Kumar to level things up for Goa. Another penalty in the 86th minute from Odafe won the game for Sporting after Mumbai made another defensive error in the box.
