The Rio-bound Argentina football team’s hotel rooms in Puebla, Mexico were broken into on Thursday night. The team, which was in Mexico to play a friendly against the country’s Olympic team, complained on Friday that money and personal items were stolen from their hotel rooms.

Argentina and Mexico played out a goalless draw on Thursday night at Puebla and Argentina football federation delegate Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia confirmed on Friday that the theft took place during the match. Tapia stated that the players realised that their money and personal belongings are missing after returning from the match.

"No one was hurt because no one was in the rooms at the time, but we realized there had been a robbery when we returned to the hotel from the stadium and now we are looking into finding out who was responsible for the crime," Tapia said, reported ESPN. "When we returned to the hotel to change for dinner we realized that everything was all messed up. We were missing personal items and money. Someone must be held responsible."

The Mexican Football Federation said in a statement on Friday that an agreement has been reached between the Argentina Football Association and the hotel authorities to compensate the federation.
