Mumbai FC appoint Santosh Kashyap as new manager

After parting ways with Khalid Jamil earlier this month, Mumbai FC have appointed Santosh Kashyap as their new manager. Back in April, Kashyap had resigned from his managerial role at Salgaocar FC, just before their Fed Cup campaign started, after enduring a disappointing I-League campaign.
"Santosh is one of the best managers in Indian football today. He has won and inspired players and he knows the I-League very well.
"Iād like to take this opportunity to welcome him to Mumbai FC. His track record of success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate to take the club forward. It is our aim to achieve greater success in the future and Santosh as we believe he is the right manager to do just that," Mumbai FC's Deputy Vice President Atul Badgamia was quoted as saying by the club's official website.
Kashyap, who has formerly coached clubs like Mohun Bagan and ONGC, is known for his ability to get the best out of clubs who operate with limited resources. Like he how managed to keep Air India out of the relegation zone, despite low funds, in the 2010-11 season. More recently, he finished third with the newly promoted Royal Wahingdoh in the 2014-15 season. However, his reign at the Goan club Salgaocar did not end in a happy note with the owners displeased by the team's performances. Salgaocar barely escaped relegation, and ended up being seventh in the nine-team league.
The 50-year-old has expressed his delight at having the opportunity to manage a club in Mumbai, a city where he had spent most of footballing career while playing for Mahindra United.
"To become Mumbai FC manager is organic growth for me. It is the club of a city having a hundred-year-old football legacy and also where I have playedĀ my football. It is a great honor that I have been offered the responsibility of managing the top football club of Mumbai, a city known and admired throughout India and the world.
"I have always felt an affinity with Cooperage; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the football fraternity in Mumbai. Iām looking forward to being their manager and enjoying the magnificent support of the Yellow Brigade in the coming season," Kashyap told Mumbai FC's website.
