Star studded Sourav Ganguly’s team to lock horns with Diego Maradona on Oct 2

Former cricketer Sourav Ganguly will take on legendary footballer Diego Maradona on October 2 in an exhibition game in Kolkata. In the charity match, stars from different fields, such as hockey star Dhanraj Pillay and Bengali actor Abir Chatterjee, will take the field in the "Match for Unity".

Indian football fans are will be treated to an exhibition match on October 2 as legendary football player Maradona will be in India to play the charity match. This match is titled as ‘Match for Unity’ where he will lock horns with former India cricket captain Ganguly. 

Apart from Ganguly, Chatterjee, and former India hockey captain Pillay, cricketers Manoj Tiwary and Deep Dasgupta will also show their football skills. Mohun Bagan forward Sony Norde and the club's former greats Chima Okorie, Jose Ramirez Barreto and Odafa Okolie also confirmed their availability for the charity match.  

"The non-football stars will be introduced one by one after the first 30 minutes maybe. We want serious football to be played in the first half hour. The idea is to give everyone a chance to rub shoulders with Maradona," Satadru Dutta, partner in the firm promoting Maradona's trip, told IANS on Wednesday.

Former India football players Prasun Banerjee, Carlton Chapman and Dipendu Biswas will also take part in the high profile match. It was learnt that organisers also approached former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia and they are waiting for his response.

Maradona is expected to be in Kolkata between October 2 and 4. This will be the second time when 56-year-old will visit Kolkata after December 2008. The charity match will organise at the Aditya School of Sports in Barasat.
