Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira is being considered by the Everton chiefs for the vacant manager role at Goodison Park after parting ways with Marco Silva. The former Watford boss put an end to his Everton managerial career after facing a harsh 5-2 defeat against arch-rivals Liverpool.

According to English media outlet Sky Sports, Everton wants Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira as Marco Silva’s successor after Silva was sacked on Thursday following a dismal run this season. Everton, who were aiming for European spot sits in the relegation zone with just 14 points after 15 games. The Spanish boss was relieved of his duties after a painful 5-2 defeat in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday with Duncan Ferguson taking over as the club's caretaker manager.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri along with club’s board of directors are now evaluating possible candidates who could succeed Silva. It is understood that a four-man shortlist has been discussed and Pereira is said to be at the top of that list alongside Diego Simeone and David Moyes. Pereira is currently managing in China, having finished third in the Chinese Super League as manager of Shanghai SIPG, and it understood he is willing to consider an offer from Everton.

The Portuguese has previously managed Fenerbache in Turkey, Olympiakos in Greece and also had a stint with FC Porto in his homeland.  It is not the first time that Pereira is being considered at Goodison Park with him in the running after David Moyes left in 2013. When the former Everton boss left for Manchester United Pereira was an option to take over at Goodison Park but the club opted to go with Roberto Martinez.

Luring Pereira won’t be easy as he is currently one of the highest-paid managers in the world as the 51-year-old is currently considering a new contract offer from Shanghai, which will guarantee a £30 million per year payday.
