On-loan Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa has admitted that he dreams to play in the English Premier League with Liverpool at the top of his shortlist. The Brazilian won the 2019 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores with Flamengo defeating Argentina’s River Plate in the final at Estadio Monumental.

Gabriel Barbosa etched his name in the history books when he scored a brace in the Copa Libertadores final for Flamengo helping them win the Continental championship. Barbosa, who is currently on loan from Inter, has been in excellent form and has scored 43 goals in 56 games for the last two years in Brazil. Flamengo defeated the 2018 champions River Plate to lift the Libertadores trophy and the Brazilian Serie A.

The Brazilian scored twice in the final 4 minutes of the game to turn the game in Flamengo’s favour. In an interview, the 23-year-old went on to reveal his desire to play in the Premier League in the future and also admitted his admiration for countrymen Roberto Firmino. Barbosa has been in awe of UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool and expressed his desire to one day play for the Merseysiders.

“Firmino is great, I really admire him. He's been successful for many years in Europe. He is a powerful forward and he has been great for Brazil. He is an inspiration that I look up to. It would be a pleasure to play with him. Maybe we could team up for Brazil in the future and Liverpool is a team that everyone wants to play for,” said Gabriel to the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old could face Liverpool in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar if both sides progress past the first stage. Barbosa left Santos for Inter in 2016 for £26 million but couldn’t adapt to Italian football and was loaned back to Flamengo in 2019. He has since flourished in the Brazliian Serie A and his move could be made permanent in January for £20 million. The former Santos striker also spoke on the challenge that he’ll face in England and how he wanted to test himself in the English Top flight.

“'I like the Premier League very much. It combines technique, strength and speed. I always follow the games from Brazil. It really is a place I would like to play. It's one of the best leagues in the world. Every player dreams of being a champion and winning the Premier League must be indescribable,” concluded the Brazilian forward.
