Every game is now like a final for us, admits Quique Sanchez Flores

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores has admitted that every game is like a final for Watford, with the Hornets struggling to perform in the Premier League. Their form saw former boss Javi Gracia sacked but even after the re-appointment of Sanchez Flores, Watford are still winless in the top tier.

The Hornets have struggled to impose themselves this season as seven games into the new Premier League season and Watford are still winless. They may have had a rather encouraging draw against Arsenal, with a rather impressive second-half performance, but barring that and a draw against Newcastle United the club have lost every single game. It’s why they sit at the bottom of the table with just 2 points to their name and things could get even worse.

However, new manager Quique Sanchez Flores, who replaced Javi Gracia, is in his second spell with the club and he believes that their next game against Sheffield United is a must-win clash. The Spaniard is without a win from his three league matches since he replaced Gracia, a run that includes an 8-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City, and is looking to end that.

"We are not preparing matches, we are preparing finals. We are conscious of the situation - it is not good at the moment. But the positive thing is we have many matches to play, many finals. So we have chances. If we can get good results, we can change the situation but we need to do it. This is the first opportunity we have. We know the opponent is really tough, full of confidence. They are really good but I think we have the necessary players in this squad to try to win,” said Flores reports Sky Sports.

Watford did relatively well last season even reached the FA Cup final, where they eventually lost to Manchester City and finished 11 in the Premier League. Their business this summer did have a few critics and fans concerned, with the Hornets walking into the new season with an unchanged backline and a front-line that still depended heavily on Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu.

"We should not train with this kind of heavy weight on our back, thinking about what happened before. What happened before is in the past. We are interested in the future. We are positive in every single message we are giving [the squad]. They understand everything. They are really clever players, they can play much better. They should pay attention to the little details.

"We are working on a way to not concede many opportunities to the opponent. We are looking, working to find a solution and the solution is to win. This is the only thing that can change the morale of the players. But it is not a drama. It is a bad situation, it is a bad start but it is not drama. I refuse to train, to go to the match, thinking this is drama," concluded the Spaniard.
