2020 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup will have huge impact on India, says FIFA official Belina Wilson
FIFA Women’s Football Regional Consultant Belinda Wilson admitted that the upcoming 2020 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup will have a huge impact on host nation India. After the U17 Men’s World Cup back in 2017, FIFA President Gianni Infantino awarded India to host yet another major event.
Belinda Wilson feels that the showpiece event will not only boost women’s football in the country but also have a positive effect on Men’s football.
"The World Cup will have a huge impact in the country, not just on the women's game but also on the men's. You saw what happened when India hosted the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017, and how much it changed the demographics and direction. I expect the same for the coming World Cup as well. You'll see that the host cities will galvanize from within and the rest of the states will follow," said Belinda as per reports of the aiff.com
The Indian Women’s Football Team has shown a vast improvement in the past few years with the advent of various tournaments like the Senior National Football Championships and the Indian Woman’s League. Belinda feels that the amount of investment made is responsible for the rise in Women’s football in India.
"Women's football in India is improving a lot. It has come a long way in a short amount of time. You can see with the investments being made that the game is becoming a better product. I can see there is investment being made at the senior and youth level," added Belinda.
The 2020 FIFA U17 Women’s Cup will be held from November 2 to 21 next year.
