Jamshedpur FC has roped in Nigerian stopper Stephen Eze as the club’s sixth foreign signing ahead of the new season of the ISL. The African has made 13 appearances for the national side after he made his debut back in 2016 and was also a part of the preliminary 30-man for the 2018 World Cup.

Jamshedpur FC‘s efforts to qualify for the top four in the ISL has failed in each of their previous campaigns, but the club is leaving no stones unturned for the upcoming season. The management has been spent big this season and they’re continuing to do so, having roped in Nigerian centre-back Stephen Eze ahead of the 2020-21 Indian Super League, marking their sixth foreign signing this season. The 26-year made his International debut back in 2016, earning 13 caps for the national side so far.

"I have been following the ISL closely and it is one of the most exciting and competitive leagues. I have seen the passion of the fans of Jamshedpur, which is why I'm excited and cannot wait to get started. My aim is simple, and it is to win. There have been some exciting signings with the club in the past few weeks, and I look forward to work with my teammates and end the season with silverware," said Stephen Eze, after completing the formalities.

The stopper was also named in Nigeria’s preliminary 30-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but did not make the final 23 man squad. He played all the six games for the Super Eagles in the 2018 African Nations Championships, however, with the team finishing as the runners-up. Owen Coyle, the head coach of the ISL outfits, is excited with the prospect of having Stephen Eze in the squad.

"Eze will be crucial in making our defence mean and miserly. He comes with a solid reputation and representing a World Cup playing nation like Nigeria requires some serious talent. His towering personality and unyielding attitude towards the game could make him one of the best center-backs in the ISL," said Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle, after the signing.

“Eze's presence in the dressing room will be absolutely uplifting for the squad. He is an outstanding young man and a real team player with a huge future for him domestically as well as internationally,” added the manager.
