Indian colts thrash Oman to enter hockey Asia Cup semis

The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team thrashed Oman 9-0 in the quarterfinals, to book a semi- final berth at the 8th Junior Asia Cup in Kuantan, Malaysia on Thursday. Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat- trick for the Indian team, including one from a penalty stroke.

Having beaten Japan 2-1, Malaysia 5-4 and China 4-1 to get into the quarters, Indian colts produced a dominating performance against a hapless Oman team, which finished bottom of Pool B in the group stages.

India started the match on an attacking note, scoring twice in the first ten minutes. Harmanpreet Singh opened the scoring in the seventh minute from a penalty stroke. They finished the first half leading 6-0, thanks to goals from Harampreet Singh (7th and 12th minutes), Armaan Qureshi (10th minute), Gurjant Singh (18th minute), Santa Singh (22nd minute) and Mandeep Singh (30th minute).

The boys in blue finished off the match adding three more goals in the second half. Harmanpreet Singh scored a field goal in the 50th minute adding to his two in the first half. Harjeet Singh (45th minute) and Mohammad Umar (54th minute) scored the other two goals for India.

India will now face Japan in the semi-finals of the event on November 21.
