South Africa hold Indian Eves to a 2-2 draw

Goals from Gurjit Kaur and Deep Grace Kaur struck in space of two minutes as Indian women hockey team settled for a 2-2 draw against South Africa in their second match in Cape Town. Indian eves had won the first game of the tour 1-0 on Saturday and will take on South Africa junior women team next on Monday.

The match started with the South African Women’s team looking to equal scores for the loss in the previous match to India. South Africa started on an attacking note scoring a field goal in the 3rd minute of the match through Marizen Marais making the score 1-0 in favour of South Africa. The first period ended with the score at 1-0 in South Africa’s favour.

The second period started with Indian eves trying to equal the scores. The goal finally came in the 24th minute through a penalty corner conversion by Gurjit Kaur. India soon made the score 2-1 through another penalty corner conversion from Deep Grace Kaur in the 26th minute. The score at the end of first half stood at 2-1.

South Africa started the third period making swift attacking moves. The attacking game reaped benefits as they scored in the 34th minute through Dirkie Chamberlain to make it 2-2 each. The rest of the match saw many attacking moves from both the teams but neither of the teams were able to score.
