Saurashtra Ranji Trophy coach Shitanshu Kotak has stated that there is no need to compare Ravindra Jadeja with anyone as the latter has his own style of play. With Ravichandran Ashwin being out of the team for the Perth Test, Jadeja might get a chance to play as the lone spinner for the Indian team.

After winning the first Test match against Australia by 31 runs at the Adelaide Oval, India announced the 13-man squad for the second Test match starting tomorrow. Important news out of the announcement being the unavailability of Ravichandran Ashwin who will miss out due to a jarred back. In such a scenario Ravindra Jadeja might get a look in for the final 11 as a spinner.

“There is competition everywhere, in cricket too. I don’t want to comment on Chahal or Kuldeep. Jadeja has his own style and he doesn’t need to be compared to anyone. Anyone means anyone. He is very positive and talented. Not just comparison, no one can give Jadeja competition,” Kotak told Timesofindia.com.

Jadeja has not been able to cement a permanent slot in the Indian team even six years after making his Test cricket debut. But his coach insists that Jadeja is a special player and challenges to show any other player who can win similar matches that Jadeja has previously done in the Ranji Trophy.

“I want to ask this – please name one player who can win a Ranji Trophy game like this? Jadeja has done it numerous times. He turns up for Saurashtra the same way he represents India,” Kotak said.

“His commitment and determination are a class apart. Players who play international cricket hardly take domestic games seriously, but Jadeja, as per my experience, shows the same passion when he plays for Saurashtra,” he said.

This is one of those unique situations for the hosts Australia as they trail a home Test series 0-1 to India for the first time. Kotak also warned the hosts to be wary of the in-form Jadeja.

“Jadeja's form is a warning for Australia. Scoring so many runs and taking wickets at the same time is not an easy thing to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see a hundred from him in Australia. He is in amazing form. I will warn the Aussies,” the coach said.

The coach also revealed that Jadeja does not open up about his non-selection. And once dropped he just gets back to business. The coach also wants Jadeja to be included in India’s World Cup squad.

“He never talks to anyone after being excluded or being dropped. He will come and say hello to you and get back to practice. He will practice more and spend more time in the nets. He is so determined. He is never down. He is human and of course has emotions, but he never shows it to anyone,” the coach said.

“If India wants to win the World Cup in England, they need a player like Jadeja. He is a match-winner,” Kotak signed off.
