Nitin Tomar-led UP Yoddha registered a win in their first ever PKL match overcoming Telugu Titans 31-18. Rahul Chaudhari, showing his raiding abilities, tried to prevent his side from slumping to their third consecutive defeat but eventually, an all-around UP proved the deserving winning.

UP Yoddha win the battle of the raiders

Both the teams started the proceedings with continuous successful raids as the game setup beautifully with both sides tied at 4-4. However, it looked as if debutants UP shifted the momentum in their favour stealing two points in successive attack and defence chances before Titans nullified the lead repeating the same process. With the game perfectly poised both the teams continued sharing the spoils of their respective raids before UP Yoddha broke the deadlock pinning down Telugu Titans skipper Rahul Chaudhari to the mat taking the score to 10-8. A spell of empty raids from both sides followed which led to Mahesh Goud’s exit from the mat only for a few seconds before substitute Amit Chillar suffered the same fate as his counterpart bringing Goud back into play. Rakesh Kumar revived Rahul Chaudhari before Rishank Devadiga’s successful raid once again made sure that the Titans skipper stays on the bench as the half ended with UP having a slender lead of 12-11.

UP’s defence started the second half on the front foot sending in-form Vikas back to the bench but the Titans were back to full strength on the mat raiding the Yoddha’s two consecutive times but still trailed by a point. However, the neck-to-neck competition turned on its head with Surender Singh managing a super raid extending the lead to 17-13. A series of successes in attack and defense paved the way for the first all-out of the match as all the Titans’ players had to head to the bench with the scoreboard reading 23-14 at the halfway mark of the second half. Yoddha continued to dominate the proceedings with Rishank opening up a nine-point lead between the two sides. Telugu skipper Rahul then took charge scoring in back to back raids followed by Vishal Bharadwaj’s ankle hold that narrowed the lead to two points and reduced the Yoddha to only 3 players. However, a super tackle by the Yoddha followed by Nitin Tomar sending two Titans’ players to the bench sealed the game in their favour with the scoreboard reading 31-18.
