Reputed Indian kabaddi coaches Balwan Singh and Ashan Kumar will be a part of the panel for the Indian men’s teams. Top female coaches Sunil Dabas, Shailja Jain and Banani Saha have been selected for the same role in the Indian women’s teams by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI).

The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) has appointed six coaches in the coaching panel for the men’s and women’s Indian teams. Balwan Singh, who was the coach of the senior national side when they won the 2016 World Cup, has been named for the men’s team along with former Puneri Paltan coach Ashan Kumar.

Balwan was also the coach of the inaugural PKL champions Jaipur Pink Panthers and guided the Indian side to the titles in 2010 and 2014 Asian Games. The two reputed coaches will be joined by Jaivir Sharma who has worked with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at its Gandhinagar centre.

The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India had advertised for the posts on October 15 and after going through 29 applications, they decided on the coaches on Thursday.

Sunil Dabas, who was the first kabaddi player to win the Padma Shri award, and Shailja Jain, who was the coach of the Iranian women’s team that clinched gold in Asian Games last year, have been included in the panel for the women’s teams. The panel also has India women’s team's assistant coach in 2018 Asian Games Banani Saha.

The first-ever under 20 Kabaddi World Cup will be played in November this year in Iran while the World Cup is expected to be played next year with the Indian men trying to defend the title that they won back in 2016.
