Olympic medallists Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang, along with Chain Singh, will lead the Indian charge at the 8th Asian Air Gun Championship starting in New Delhi on Sunday.

The competition precedes the Asian Shooting Championship in Kuwait in November, the final event for shooters from the continent to secure Olympic berths for Rio 2016.

India have so far bagged eight quota places for Rio. They had won 11 berths before the 2012 London Olympics, and the National Rifle Association of India is hopeful that their shooters will clinch more place than London for Rio.

Besides Bindra, Narang and Chain Singh – the trio that has already secured quota places for Rio Olympics – other top Indian shooters such as Vijay Kumar, Apurvi Chandela, Jitu Rai, Henna Sidhu and Ayonika Paul will be competing in the tournament.

A total of 180 shooters from 14 Asian countries will be participating in the four-day competition.
