Mexican Sergio Perez has been retained by Sahara Force India for the 2016 Formula One season.

Perez, 25, had stints with Sauber and McLaren before joining Force India in 2014.

The Mexican will pair up with German Nico Hulkenberg, who has already been retained for the next two seasons.

“Since coming here I have really grown as a driver and I feel I am performing at my best. I have always said I want to establish myself in a team and it is the right moment to announce my commitment for the future with Sahara Force India,” the Mexican said.

Perez is ninth in the standings with 39 points in the current season and Hulkenberg 12th on 30 points. Force India is fifth in the constructors’ standings with 69 points, 19 ahead of sixth-placed Lotus.

“He’s done a fantastic job for us. When we give him a competitive car we know he can get the job done,” Force India team principal Vijay Mallya said. “He’s also got a great attitude and never gives up – it’s that fighting spirit which fits well with this team.”
