Royal Challengers Bangalore has appointed Ashish Nehra as coach of the team for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former India pacer, who had joined the franchise as a bowling coach last season, will be a member of the coaching leadership team alongside Gary Kirsten.

After serving the RCB unit as a bowling coach in the 11th season of the Indian Premier League, the Delhi-man has been given added and more central responsibility of the Virat Kohli-led T20 side for the next edition. The franchise has a lot of faith in the Delhi pair of Nehra and Kohli to deliver the goods for the Bangalore-based team along with Kirsten.

"We are very happy to have Ashish Nehra join RCB as part of the coaching leadership team. Ashish and Gary will partner the Captain to help the team deliver better performance," RCB chairman Sanjeev Churiwala said.

Making his international debut in 1999, Nehra played 120 ODIs, 17 Tests and 27 T20Is for India. He retired from international cricket last year before taking up the responsibility of the RCB bowling unit.

"I had the privilege to join the coaching team of RCB last season and feel very passionately about the team. I want to thank the team management for considering me in a leadership position with the franchise and look forward for the successful seasons ahead," he said.

The former Delhi pacer played for Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Pune Warriors, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL in the past and has immense experience of the league.
