Anirban Lahiri has announced his decision to miss out on this week’s Korn Ferry Tour Championship in order to help prepare his Florida-based family against an approaching hurricane. He has already regained his PGA Tour playing card and will return to action in a fortnight’s time.

Having secured his US PGA Tour playing card with an impressive top-five finish in last week’s Boise Open, a part of the erstwhile Web.com Tour which has been rebranded as the Korn Ferry Tour. Anirban Lahiri has stated he won’t be participating in this week’s tournament.

He cited the reason as going home to his family that lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to help them evacuate before hurricane Dorian hits. It had strengthened to a category-3 storm by Friday and is expected to make landfall in the first half of next week.

“Unfortunately had to withdraw from @tourchampulf to head back to Florida and evacuate the family. Cat-4 #HurricaneDorian2019 estimated to make landfall in 72hrs. See you all @PGATOUR in a couple of weeks. #familyfirst,” tweeted Lahiri on the eve of the finale.

The former Asian number one had a rough season last time around, finishing on a lowly 174th FedEx Cup points list that placed his playing card for next year’s Tour under doubt. However, he has since bounced back well to regain his status as a Tour player and will be looking to add to his carer haul of 100-plus starts on the PGA Tour.
