ISL

Monday sees bottom sides, Chennaiyin FC and Hyderabad FC, clashing against each other after the league has just resumed after an international break, giving a mighty relief to the injured sides. Hyderabad would hope to come back stronger after a horrible start as CFC still seek first win.

Preview

'Winless' and 'Goalless' - these two words could holistically sum up Chennaiyin FC’s season this time, which hasn’t been very different from their last campaign. The two-time champions’ only point came in a goalless draw against Mumbai City FC as they are sitting at the bottom of the table.

While most ISL teams have been dealing with injury concerns, CFC haven been spared that wrath and they have still struggled in the league. And with the 13-day break to reflect on their displays, the Marina Machans will be desperate not for a win against Hyderabad FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, on Monday.

On the other hand, newcomers Hyderabad FC had a bad start to their campaign as well. They conceded the most in this ISL with 10 goals in just four matches. They are just above Chennaiyin FC on the points table with three points, as their only win came against Kerala Blasters. However, they are one of the most injury-struck team in the league with numerous key foreign players missing.

Key Players

Romanian defender Lucian Goian has been the key player in Chennaiyin’s defence. And if CFC at al get their scoring acume back, it would majorly be because of Anirudh Thapa and Lallianzuala Chhangte, for their new foreign recruitments have been underwhelming to begin with.

Former ISL Golden Boot winner Marcelinho is the target man for Hyderabad FC and he has been in some form so far, this season. Moreover, Austrian midfielder Marko Stankovic has been their work horse on the pitch. In the absence of their key foreign players, Phil Brown has been heavily dependant on these duo.

Team News

Mizo Sniper, Jeje Lalpekhlua is the notable player missing from the Chennai side. Jeje has a long term injury and will come back to the side soon. Other players on John Gregory's roster are all fit.

Hyderabad's long list of injured players include Bobo, Giles Barnes, and Rafa Lopez. Spanish midfielder Nestor Gordillo is suspended till December whie Indian forward Robin Singh has been a doubtful for the match.

Manager History

John Gregory

John Gregory, who is in his third ISL season, has seen two contrasting campaigns. The first year he led Chennayin to their second ISL title and the very next year saw them finish last. The Englishman has a great playing and coaching career in England, but It has been a hard task for him to fulfil the fans’ expectations again this season.

Phil Brown

The Englishman has played and managed several clubs in England. His notable stint was in the Premier League with Hull City, where they were promoted but could not avoid relegation in the same season. In India, he uplifted the struggling Pune City FC last season to a decent position in the table. It will be a huge responsibility for Phil to bring in new fans for Hyderabad FC.
