Dabang Delhi TTC registered a comfortable win over their Kolkata counterparts to move level on points with U Mumba at the top of the table and inch closer to a semi final berth. G Sathiyan was the standout player as he won his singles match in straight games before triumphing in the mixed doubles.

Dabang Delhi’s bid for a second straight title continued in spectacular fashion as they defeated the Mavericks 10-5 on Sunday. The win took their points tally for the season to 33, at par with U Mumba who sit on top of the table.

Mavericks started off on a strong note, as Maniak Barta came from behind to defeat compatriot Krittwika Sinha Roy 2-1. However, G Sathiyan would there onwards steal the show in a dominating display.

In the clash’s opening men’s singles match, the World No. 30 from India earned a 3-0 victory though it wasn’t easy to come. He went down 1-3 in the first game against Filus Ruwen even though Sathiyan sits more than 20 spots above the German in the world rankings. However, he slowly settled into the game before eventually edging him out 11-9 in the opening game. Now that he had found his rhythm, the German was no match for him as he lost the next two games 11-7, 11-6.

With the scoreboard now reading 4-2, he combined with Bernadette Szocs against the pairing of Manika Batra and Benedikt Duda. World no.14 Szocs and Sathiyan won the first game to take the lead before the pair representing Kolkata drew level. The rhythm carried on in the decider and with a considerable lead of 7-4, the game looked in the bag for them before Sathiyan and Szocs turned on the heat to win the game 11-8.

Jon Persson sealed the affair as he clean swept Sanil Shetty 3-0 to attain an unassailable 9-3 lead. However, Bernadette Szocs didn’t take it easy in the final game either, as she defeated fellow European Matilda Ekholm 2-1 to end the match with a margin of 10-5.
