Men’s top seed Manav Thakkar made a strong comeback after missing the chance in men’s singles title as he lifted the Youth Boys trophy in the final of the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships. In women’s category, Prapti Sen won the event by beating Srushti Haleangadi 4-2 win.

Thakkar was top-seeded in both the events in the tournament but couldn’t claim the title in the men’s singles in Sonepat on Friday. However, he made up for it with a 4-0 win over Manush Shah 4-0 in the other event. Shah has lost to Thakkar almost every time they have met before and was determined to right the wrong this time.

However, while Shah was on top for most of the tournament, he lost the first game very easily before stretching Thakkar in the second one. But, that was the only time Shah looked dangerous as the PSPB paddler finished it off the final in style getting ready to embark on his trips to Busan and Geelong for the Korea and Australia Open championships.

Sen, in the women’s category, was up against Maharashtra’s Haleangadi for the title but needed some time to get into the zone, which saw her losing the opening game before fighting back. Sen was tested in the third game as well that Haleangadi eventually won but that was it for the girl from Maharashtra. Following that Sen won the next two to take the match home.
