Not only did Magdaléna Rybáriková pull off the biggest win of her career against Karolína Plíšková yesterday, she also might have won the point of the Championships so far. The Slovakian was engaged in an enormously long rally in the third set but managed to come out on top before beating the Czech.

Having lost the first set rather tamely at 3-6, Rybáriková staged a stunning comeback to win the next two sets and cause the upset of the tournament so far. However, the point that stood out from yesterday’s match was the incredible rally between the duo in the third set.

Serving to stay in the match at 2-5 down in the final set and with the score tied at 15-all, Pliskova started the rally with a big serve down the line, which the Slovakian managed to return at full stretch. However, that allowed the no.3 seed to dictate terms in the rally as she moved Rybáriková from one side of the court to the other.

But to her credit, Rybáriková managed to stay in the point, even as she was drawn to the net from the baseline and then made to run back mercilessly. After showing some incredible retrieval skills, the Slovakian managed to win the rally with a stunning backhand volley on the run, which Pliskova had no response to.

Not only did the rally brought a part of the crowd on their feet, it also proves that Rybáriková’s win yesterday was a well-deserved one. This also has to be the point of the tournament, so far.
