India's Ramkumar Ramanathan stunned the World No. 8 and top seed Dominic Thiem 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets, at the Antalya Open to enter the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Indian will next face World No. 79 Marcos Baghdatis in the quarterfinals of the grass-court event.

World No. 222 Ramkumar Ramanathan cruised past the French Open semi-finalist Dominic Thiem, to register the biggest win of his career in Turkey on Tuesday and reach his second ATP World Tour quarterfinal.

The Indian tennis star started the first set on the offensive and sailed to an easy 6-3 win. The Chennai lad then broke the Austrian three times in the second set and won the last five games of the match to seal a quarterfinals berth. The 22-year old hit 10 aces and also converted 90 percent of his first serves, as opposed to Thiem's 73 percent.

"I worked really hard for this,” he said after the match, “Thank you to the crowd for coming out and cheering. I like the grass. Courts are fast. I took my chances and it worked out. I’m having a great time here and thanks to all the organisers,” he added.

The youngster had set up a round of 16 meeting with the top-seeded Thiem after he defeated World No. 68 Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. However, despite his epic victory over Thiem, Ramkumar could not make it to the Wimbledon qualifiers, the cut-off date for which ended on June 25.
