After losing to Sergiy Stakhovsky in the round of 16 clash on Thursday, Ramkumar Ramanathan failed to make it to the quarter-finals at the ATP Surbiton Challenger. Ramanathan, ranked six places above the Ukraine veteran, lost in straight sets 4-6, 7-6 in the season’s first grass-court event.

Ramanathan had a chance to make it to the quarter-finals to join third seeded Yuki Bhambri, who overcame Alex Bolt of Australia 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinals of the €127,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Surbiton. However, the Ukrainian opponent proved to be too much for the man from Chennai as he failed to provide any sort of challenge in the first set. Although Ramanathan did well in the second set, he failed to close the game and eventually, lost the battle 4-6, 7-6.

On the other hand, women’s tennis star Karman Kaur Thandi, who is seeded fourth in Thailand Open, continued her impressive run as she defeated fifth seed Risa Ozaki 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the Thailand ITF $25,000 event in Hua Hin. The Indian ace was a set down, but she fought back to win the next two to beat her Japanese opponent. She will now face Mexico’s Victoria Rodriguez for a place in the final of the hard-court event.

Meanwhile, Shruti Ahlawat and Daksh Agarwal made it to the finals of the MSLTA-KPIT Arun Wakankar Memorial Asian U14 Tennis. While Ahlawat will take on her doubles partner Veda Prapurna in the girl’s singles final, Agarwal will lock horns with his doubles partner Manas Dhamne in the boys singles summit clash. Incidentally, the finalists in both groups have already reached the finals of the respective doubles events.
