India’s second highest-ranked tennis player, Sumit Nagal won his second Challengers title on Sunday when he got the better of Facundo Bagnis in the summit clash of Buenos Aires Challenger title. The youngster has risen to his career-best ranking of 135 previously and is likely to rise further up.

The tournament had been quite easy for the 22-year-old as he had a comfortable outing against local favourite Francisco Cerundolo in the quarter-final, while he followed that up with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over fourth-seeded Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in the semis.

The summit clash on Sunday saw Nagal winning 6-4, 6-2 in quite a comprehensive manner and he would be put in the top 135 of the ATP rankings, which has been scheduled to be released on Monday. This was Nagal’s second career Challenger title after he had first won at the Bengaluru Open in 2017.

Nagal, who caught eyeballs with an astounding junior Wimbledon boy doubles title in 2015, has had a brilliant few months of late that saw him make it to the main draw of the US Open and compete against 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer. Though Nagal lost that match, he had taken everyone’s breath away with a first set win.

Nagal followed that up with a runner-up finish at the Banja Luka Challenger in September, which had primarily put him to his career-high ranking of 135 on Monday.
