Asian Wrestling Championships | Amit Dhankar, Vicky settle with silver medals

Amit Dhankar and Vicky have won silver medals in the 74kg and 92kg weight categories respectively at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championships in China. The Indian wrestlers also won three bronze medals on Wednesday which has taken their overall tally of medals to eight in the Championship.

India has finished the freestyle events at the Asian Wrestling Championship at the second position with eight medals. The list also includes one gold, three silver and four bronze medals for the Indians. Asian powerhouse Iran, which won 10 medals in the competition including six gold medals, stands at the top of the medalā€™s tally.

Dhankar had to settle with a silver in the 74 kg weight category after losing the final battle on Wednesday.Ā In the semi-finals, Dhankar outplayed Ilgiz Dzhakypbekov of Kyrgyzstan in a 5-0 victory but was unable to repeat the performance in the final suffering 0-5 loss to Daniyar Kaisanov of Kazakhstan.

The four other wrestlers in action on Wednesday also ended up with medals with Vicky winning a silver medal in 92 kg, Rahul Aware winning bronze in 61 kg, junior Asian champion Deepak Punia winning another bronze in 86 kg and Sumit Malik finishing third in the 125 kg category.

Vicky, who got a walkover in his quarter-final as Commonwealth Games champion Inam Butt of Pakistan failed to travel for the event, defeated Xiao Sun of China 3-2 in the semi-finals. However, he failed to win against Alireza Mohammad Karimimachiani of Iran in the final with an 11-0 loss in the first period.
