Bajrang Punia has bagged a gold medal in 65kg men’s freestyle at the ongoing Ali Aliyev Wrestling Tournament in Kaspiisk, Russia. The Indian wrestler has managed to win his second gold medal in a couple of weeks as he got the better Russia’s Viktor Rassadin in the final bout of his category.

Bajrang Punia continued his fine run in world wrestling as he has added another gold medal to his name. Punia has won the men’s 65kg final bout of the Ali Aliyev Wrestling Tournament in Russia by beating the local favourite. After starting the final bout on a poor note, Punia managed to beat Viktor Rassadin 13-8 to clinch the yellow metal at the event.

Punia put up a great show towards the end of the bout and the Russian wrestler had no answer to his moves and it was the Indian who ended up with the gold medal in the 65kg freestyle category.

Punia is in a great form in last few days as this was his second gold medal in two weeks time. The 25-year-old Indian had also claimed a gold medal in the same category at the recently-concluded Asian Wrestling Championships in Xi’an, China. The grapler from Haryana had defeated Kazakhstan's Sayatbek Okassov in a thrilling final in China.

World no. 1 Punia has also been nominated for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award by the Wrestling Federation of India recently.
