India Open enter its third round, which is also the quarter-final of the USD 350, 000 tournament and the competition has now narrowed down to some of the best shuttlers standing. Some of the biggest matches today are Kidambi Srikanth taking on Sai Praneeth while HS Prannoy goes against Viktor Axelsen.
The tournament will be opening with a tricky singles match between Parupalli Kashyap and Chinese Taipei men’s singles star Wang Tzu Wei. The Indian would go into the match as the second favourite surely, but with Subhankar Dey already proving once that favourites is just an irrelevant tag, anything is possible.
HS Prannoy would be taking on Viktor Axelsen following that in what would be a tournament-defining clash for the Indian. A win against the great Dane could very much be his last hurdle in the tournament, especially given the recent form of Kidambi Srikanth in the last few tournaments.
PV Sindhu takes on an impressive Mia Blichfeldt, who has had a domineering run in the tournament so far. The Danish shuttler was shocked by Riya Mookherjee last day as she came back to win the second game forcing the game into a decider. But, Blichfeldt showed her class soon after and kept the Indian at short for the entire third game.
Sai Praneeth talking on Srikanth could be the match of the day, especially the intensity both of them have shown in their last few games. They have come back from the death and showed extreme control of momentum as and when needed.
