Full Time

It was see-saw in the first half with the match leaning from one side to the other. Thoi Singh announced his arrival with a brace in the first half that made the game look over even before it started. Rowlin Borges' own goal also indicated that it was not NEUFC's day in a venue they have been successful.

However, the hero of the match would Ogbeche here who finished his hattrick in the first half itself with some help from Chennaiyin's defence of course. In the second half, Borges scored the winner after yet another defensive lapse. 

And that's it. Chennaiyin FC becomes the first defending champions to lose three opening games.
They sit at the rock bottom with 0 points.

Pawan Kumar mau have had a nervy few moments defending high balls today, but he stepped up to the occasion here.
Another floating ball inside the box as NEUFC defence struggle to clear it. But, Pawan Kumar prowls at it against an onrushing Gregory.

Jeje misses!

Gregory shows brilliant skill and strength on the left before putting in a delicious cross inside the box. Orlandi heads it at the far post where Jeje stands unmarked! But, he misses it by a whisker!

Lakhra gives the ball from deep midfield to Obeche, who is closely marked by two defenders. However. he is flagged offside this time!

Orlandi puts in a delicious ball inside the box from a free kick from 40 yards out. Sabia jumps high to lay it for Calderon to put it in. But, he puts it high! These could be costly!

Gregory Nelson comes in for Salom now. Looks like Jeje will be the sole target man for Chennaiyin here with Augusto, Orlandi and Nelson the provider.

The hosts get a corner and Orlandi's perfect ball finds Sabia underneath it! However, the scorer from last match heads it high and wide this time!

Rightly given as the defender intentionally steps on Ogbeche's heels from behind as the former runs away with the ball.

Another defensive move by Schattorie here as a defender replaces a winger.

Chennaiyin wins a free kick near the technical area. Orlandi's freekick is just behind Salom as NEUFC clears it upfield!

The game is locked in the midfield for some time with everyone trying to head it the opposite way. It stops with Tlang fouling Thapa at the halfway line. Chennaiyin's freekick fetches them a corner as Reagan clears it out but Chennaiyin fail to capitalize.

Chennaiyin showing some intent on the final quarter here. Jerry tries to find Salom inside the box with a curling effort but NEUFC clears it for a throw.

Thoi Singh and Orland try to combine before Thoi's cross is blocked and eventually cleared by Piutea.  NEUFC is seen having a five man defence here. Difficult to crack that!

TP Rehnesh's suspension looked to be NEUFC's bigest void in the match today as Chennaiyin slotted in three early goals. But, young Pawan Kumar has shown composure in the second half with his passing very impressive.

NEUFC have reduced their tempo. Apart from a few long balls from the midfield that is aimed at Ogbeche, the Highlanders look happy to defend for the rest of the game.

Mailson Alves is taken off! Strange move given he is CFC's best defender and they have conceded four goals already.
Andrea Orlandi comes in. A midfielder in for a centre-half, looks like Gregory will play a one -man midfield now!

Federico puts in a lobbed ball to Tlang on the right flank but he fails to control and the ball is out for a throw.

Chennaiyin are leaving ball too loose here. They are chasing the ball without purpose, it seems. Meanwhile, Ogbeche turns round Calderon at the half way line cheekily but the defender follows quickly and fouls him.   

Jeje Lalpekhlua is warming up here! A buzz could be heard amongst the crowd. The hosts will be needing all his experiecne here.

There's a bit of circus near the technical area here. Both the teams vie for the ball but no one can control it for long. This happens few times before the ball is eventually cleared for a throw.

A central midfielder for a winger. Half an hour to go and Schattories looks to strengthen his spine here.

NorthEast with the attack again as Regan gets the ball on the right flank but his cross goes directly into the goalkeeper's hands.

Horrible defence by Chenniyin here! They lose the ball at least thrice in a matter of minutes here!
NEUFC go up as Tlang tries a cross from the right to find Ogbeche in the middle, but the ball is headed away by the central defence.
The ball falls for Anirudh Thapa who tussles with Borges but loses it soon as Borges runs to the edge of the box and executes a curling effort to the right corner!
NEUFC lead for the first time today!

NEUFC's passing is mesmerizing to watch at times and Chennaiyin's ploy to hurry them is hardly working. On the other end, Calderon has now taken the role of the defensive midfielder with Francisco going to the right back position.

Chennaiyin in possession now although they cannot go into the final third as NEUFC's defence sits tight.

Federico's corner is missed by all as it falls to Tlang at the far side of the box. He tries to put in a cross amidst the congested Chennaiyin defence, but the ball is cleared upfield by the defence.

Chennaiyin kicks us off with Jerry putting in a long ball for Augusto up the left flank. However, the forward's sliding tackle sees the ball out for a throw.

Second Half 

The players walk out for what promises to be an entertaining half!

HALF TIME

What a first half we have had here! Easily the most entertaining and as many would say, mindless, this season, so far.
While the 10-day break might have solved Chennaiyin's scoring problem, their defensive leaks still remain intact. The backline looked way too passive after leading 3-1.
For NEUFC, it won't be easy to level after trailing twice by two goals and Schattorie would hopefully want to tighten his defence in the half time.

NEUFC gets a corner at the last moment. Federico's floating ball doesn't get anyone inside the box and a string of shots follow before the ball is overhit high and wide.

The referee blows his whistle. 

Two minutes have been added at the end of the first half!
The players looked exhausted at the moment. The second half will see more composure and sanity, I hope!

Inigo has come up now. He outmuscles his way at the edge of the box before laying the ball to Anirudh Thapa on the left flank. However, the youngster tries to drag the ball a little too far and hits it at the defender.

Both the teams have been horrendous in their defence so far with the attacking fronts having a gala day.
With couple of minutes to go, both the sides would need to have a lot of things to discuss. 

GOAL NEUFC! EQUALIZER!

This is absolute madness here.

Leudo passes the ball from the back to Federico in the midfield. Federico finds Ogbeche in between the two centre halves, none of whom are marking the defenders!
Ogbeche takes the chance with both hands and puts a brilliant finish against the onrushing Karanjit Singh! Three chances three goals!

This is a goalfest going on here! If Thoi is the destructor for CFC, Ogbeche is going toe-to-toe at the other end!
Borges with the ball from the midfield and his ball is totally misjudged by Francisco inside the box! Ogbeche controls it well before slotting it at the far post with the outside of his boot!

Chennaiyin have been at their clinical best today! What were they doing in the 10-day break! Everybody wants to know it now!
This is a totally different side.

It's that man Thoi again! What an evening he is having!

Jerry gives the ball to Raphael Augusto dribbles inside the box Samba style as NEUFC struggle to get a touch of the ball.  Augusto's left-footed cross finds Thoi in the middle who tries a back flick, fails and gets another chance which is a back flick again!. He puts it in this time!

A moment of madness for Chennaiyin defence!

The threat starts with Jerry's over touch that leads to a cross inti the box. However, Tlang fails to get it and the ball is cleared up the field. Federico receives it before taking a half hearted attempt at the goal that Karanjit pushes away in front of him. While Sabia and Federico fights for it inside the box, Ogbeche comes from behind and produces a left footed shot at the far post.

All of NEUFC's attacks are half-hearted with Mailson Alves and Sabia intercepting everything, They have to sort it out and fast!

Federico gets a yellow card! That's a malicious tackle on Thapa. Schattories looks in disbelief!

Chennai scores a third!. No, it is offside!

The hosts get a foul near the technical area. Jerry puts in a delicious ball from the free kick, which is headed to Carlos Salom by Eli Sabia. Salom puts it in and celebrates before turning to the linesman who is showing the flag. It was Sabia who is offside, it seems.

NorthEast are losing it, it seems. Unnecessary tackles flying in out of nowhere at the back while up front, they have found Ogbeche only once in the opening 20 minutes.

It's all Chennaiyin now as the hosts hurls in attack after attack at NEUFC's defence. Carlom Salom is fed in a ball from the midfield, but the striker is flagged offside.

What a moment for Thoi Singh here! He was brought into the side in the place of star forward Gregory Nelson and he has surely made his presence notice!

NEUFC doesnt press CFC's initial buildup at the back and Jerry finds Issac on the left with a brilliant lobbed ball. The wingers puts in a grounded cross in the middle as Thoi taps it in. He gets an awkward somersault against the keeper in the process, though!  

NorthEast are playing with a highline now. Too much trust in their passing ability may be. Meanwhile, Nikhil Kadam tries a one two with Ogbeche but the winger couldnt reach it. CFC clears it.

Jerry dribbles past few on the left flank before giving a cross. However. Komorski is there to clear it away for a throw.

The game has been dictated by fast paced passing so far. Schattorie is visibly annoyed at his players as he is seen signalling a "what the hell are you doing" from the sidelines.
For Chennaiyin, however, this was just the start they needed. 

A flurry of attack by NEUFC here. Most of them coming from the left flank where Kadam and Robert are operating. However, Chennai are adamant in their defence.

Instant response by NEUFC. Borges releases the ball on the left flank to Nikhil Kadam, who has to cover large grounds before getting the ball. But, his left footed cross is weak as it hits a Chennai defender and they get the ball back.

Oh my! The hero from the last match has become the villain in no time! Anirudh Thapa tries to get into the box but the ball is cleared for a corner by Luedo.
From the corner, Eli Sabia and Rowlin Borges are seen in  tussle before the later heads in the ball at the back of the net!

NEUFC gets a throw deep in their defensive third and does brilliantly to get the ball up in just three passes. Federico gives a through ball to Tlang on the left flank who gets to the edge of the box but the ball is cleared away for a corner. However, the visitors dont capitalize on that.

The Highlanders kick us off as they start playing from the back. However, a long ball from the central defence is dealt well by the hosts who is under no urgency for NEUFC dont press.

Looks like NorthEast United are going to kick us off!

The big news from the Marina Machans camp is that the fan favourite - Jeje Lalpekhlua - has been benched! A bold decision by Gregory, who is going with new import Salom up in the attack this time.

The defending champions continue to look for their first win of the season as they host NorthEast United FC in their third match of the season. The Highlanders, on the other hand, have already earned a tough win away at ATK and would want to continue their form.

Chennaiyin’s biggest reason for a flop show has been the misfiring heroes from last season like Mailson Alves, Jeje Lalpekhlua and Anirudh Thapa. John Gergory would be praying that his players get back the form as quickly as possible as time is running out fast for them. Gregory Nelson and Raphael Augusto, however, have been impressive although they can do much better in the final third.

For the Highlanders, things have looked bright so far, with the players giving their heart and soul to the manager. In the likes of Rowlin Borges, Federico Gallego and Nikhil Kadam in the middle, Schattorie has found some miracle workers who are making things happen out of nothing. However, their biggest threat has been Bartholomew Ogbeche upfront, who is as lethal as NorthEast have ever got in last four seasons.
