Singapore Open | Round 2 - Updates

After India made a resounding starting to the Singapore campaign with Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal, and PV Sindhu all winning their respective games, they head to the pre-quarterfinals where the opponents get trickier. Apart from the three, the likes of HS Prannoy and Sameer Verma also advanced.

The top three shuttlers of Indian were handed easy draws in the first round of the main draw and they quite expectantly saw them off in straight games as Sindhu defeated Indonesia’s Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky easily while Nehwal overcame Yulia Yosephin Susanto in a similar manner. India’s only other hope, Mugdha Agrey, however, bowed out after failing against Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong. Sindhu will be facing Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt while Nehwal takes on Chochuwong next.

Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, and Sameer Verma also commenced their Singapore Open campaigns with victories against Sitthikom Thammasin, Brice Leverdez, and Suppanyu Avihingsanon respectively. However, Sai Praneeth was an anomaly and had to go down fighting against top-seeded Kento Momota of Japan in a tensed match. Apart from them, Parupalli Kashyap continued his winning streak in the tournament as he defeated Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke to set up a match with China’s Chen Long.

While Srikanth faces Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama, Prannoy will be up against Kento Momota next, as Sameer verma takes on China’s Lu Guangzu..
