Keeping an eye on the World Championship, which has been scheduled later in August, India’s star shuttler has decided not to play in the Thailand Open, which is a 500 event. Apart from Sindhu, her arch-nemesis Nozomi Okuhara has also informed that she would follow suit by giving it a miss.

Sindhu has easily been India’s best performer in the last month as she reached the final of the Indonesia Open before losing to Akane Yamaguchi and followed a similar result against the same opponent in the Japan Open.

The Indian top-ranked shuttler seemed desperate to break her seven-month-long title jinx as she gave her all but things haven’t worked out for her. And with the World Championships being held in Basel in the third week of August, she wouldn’t want to take any chances. The fourth-seeded Sindhu was supposed to be up against unseeded Chinese Han Yue, whom she had beaten in the first round of Japan Open.

However, while Sindhu won’t be playing Thailand Open, Saina Nehwal would be finally playing it as the seventh seed after she withdrew from both the Indonesia and Japan Open owing to medical issues. Also competing for the Worlds next month, Nehwal would need to play a qualifier in the opening round.

Apart from her, Okuhara has also pulled out of the tournament, as well as Yamaguchi and World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying, making Chen Yufei the top seed at the tournament. Nehwal could really fancy her chances.
