French Open | Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka qualify for last eight
Big guns Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal continued their winning streak in the French Open qualifying for the quarter-finals of the ongoing Grand Slam in Paris. In another pre-quarterfinal match on Sunday, Stan Wawrinka defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas to make it to the next round of the tournament.
Federer made it to the last eight of the French Open for the 12th time yesterday as he defeated Argentinean tennis player Leonardo Mayer in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3, 6-3. The Swiss tennis star will now take on compatriot Stan Wawrinka for a place in the round of top four at the ongoing tournament.
On the other hand, defending champion Rafael Nadal qualified for his 13th quarter-final on Sunday. Nadal got the better of Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero with a comprehensive one-sided win. The 32-year-old Spaniard won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 and will face Japan’s Kei Nishikori or Benoit Paire of France for a place in the semi-finals.
In the most exciting match of the ongoing French Open, former winner Wawrinka managed to knock Tsitsipas out of the tournament. Wawrinka registered a thrilling 7-6 (8/6), 5-7, 6-4, 3-6, 8-6 win in the longest game of the Grand Slam this year to make it to the next round. He will now take on compatriot Roger Federer with an aim of qualifying for the semi-finals at the Roland Garros.
