Syed Modi International 2022 | PV Sindhu wins women's singles title, Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto mixed doubles champions
India badminton star PV Sindhu won the Syed Modi International 2022 after she beat Malvika Bansod, in the women's singles final in Lucknow on Sunday. Sindhu won the match 21-13, 21-16 in 35 minutes to clinch her second title at the BWF 300 event, having won it for the first time in 2017.
Interestingly, this was Sindhu's first title win after the gold at BWF World Championship in 2019. At the start of the match, Sindhu raced to a 7-0 lead in the first game and then went on to close it in 14 minutes only.
The second game was much better for Bansod, but the latter failed to challenge Sindhu, in their first-ever meeting. Bansod had made a name for herself after she beat former world no.1 Saina Nehwal at the Indian Open last week.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto beat T Hema Nagendra Babu and Srivedya Gurazada 21-16, 21-12 in the final. In the men's singles, there was no final played between Frenchman Arnaud Merkle and Lucas Claerbout, as one of the players had tested positive for Covid-19.
The women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost their final against Malaysia’s Anna Ching Yik Cheong and Teoh Mei Xing 21-12, 21-13 in 32 minutes.
After this tournament, next up on the BWF calendar will be Odish Open Super 100, to be held in Cuttack from January 25 to 30.
