The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala has taken down the pictures of former Pakistan captain and present Prime Minister - Imran Khan. Earlier, the PCA Stadium in Mohali and the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur took down Khan’s pictures as well.

The Pulwama attack on February 14 which claimed the lives of around 40 CRPF personnel last week was one of the deadliest terror strikes on Indian soil over the past decade or so. The attacks have been termed as ‘cowardly’ and ‘dastardly’ and triggered a wave of outrage all across India since last Thursday.

While BCCI supported the government’s plan to sever all ties with Pakistan as far as cricket was concerned, state cricket associations are also doing their bit in order to display solidarity with the Armed Forces. Reports suggest that Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala has opted to remove the pictures of Pakistani cricketers which also included a picture of World Cup-winning captain and current prime minister - Imran Khan.

This came after the PCA Stadium in Mohali and the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur elected to the same with pictures of any present of former Pakistan cricketers from their walls. The Indian sports fraternity have extended their support to the martyrs' families. Notably, BCCI acting President CK Khanna asked the Supreme Court-appointed CoA to sanction at least Rs 5 crore for the families of the fallen soldiers. Meanwhile, former cricketers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir promised to support the educational aspirations of the soldiers’ children while India players Mohammed Shami and Shikhar Dhawan donated significant amounts to the relief fund.
