Sri Lanka A beat India A to secure consolation win in third unofficial ODI
The Sri Lanka ‘A’ team registered a six-wicket win (DLS method) in the third unofficial ODI at the KSCA Stadium in Belagavi against India ‘A’. Lankan batsmen Sangeeth Cooray (88) and Shehan Jayasuriya (65*) starred with the bat to win their first match of the ongoing five-match series.
Brief scores: India A 291/8 in 50 overs (Prashant Chopra 129, Deepak Hooda 53; Chamika Karunaratne 5-36) lost to Sri Lanka A 266/4 in 43.5 overs (Sangeeth Cooray 88, Shehan Jayasuriya 65*; Shivam Dube 2-26) by six wickets via the DLS method.
The Sri Lankan ‘A’ team, led by Ashan Priyanjan, registered their first win in the ongoing five-match ODI series against India ‘A’ on Monday at the KSCA Stadium in Belagavi. The home team had initially won the toss and opted to bat first in today’s game.
The Ishan Kishan-led side got off to a brilliant start and saw opener Prashant Chopra score 129 from 125 deliveries, Deepak Hooda scored a commendable half-century while Washington Sundar scored 26 off 18 deliveries to power the home team to a total of 291/8 from 50 overs.
The visitors needed a strong start in the second innings if they were to chase down the target of 291 set by the home side. NIroshan Dickwella (62) and Sangeeth Cooray (88) gave the Lankans the start they desired as they put up a partnership of 82 for the first wicket. After Sadeera Samarawickrama was dismissed by Shivam Dube, Shehan Jayasuriya gave Cooray the support he required. Jayasuriya remained unbeaten at 65* with Dasun Shanaka (32) giving the Lankans an edge before rain disrupted play.
The visitors were ultimately declared winners as per the DLS method and will head into the fourth match of the series trailing the Indians by 2-1.
