Now that the dust has settled, it is time to look at few of the firsts from the 2016 Olympics. PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at Olympics, while Sakshi Malik became the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the quadrennial event. Here is the full list.

Olympics

This was the first time a city from South America hosted the Olympics.

This was the first time an Olympics was held in the winter season of the host nation.

This was the first time an Olympics was held in a portugese speaking country.

This was the first time when the winners were awarded nifty medal stands - a 3D version of the Rio Logo instead of the customary bouquets.

Other Facts

First time - a Mother & Son competed in the same Olympics. Nino Salukvadze and her son Tsotne Machavariani represented Georgia in Shooting at the Rio Games .

First time a set of Triplets represented a country in the Olympics. Leila, Liina and Lily Luik of Estonia became the first set of triplets to compete at the Olympics.

First time Olympics saw competitors born after 2000. Gaurika Singh from Nepal (b.2003) & Kanak Jha from United States (b.2000)

First time in Olympic History, a married same-sex couple played together on the same team. Kate Richardson-Walsh & Helen Richardson-Walsh were members of the Great Britain women's hockey team.

Sports

This was the first time Rugby Sevens was played in Olympics. Rugby Union was played in the 1924 Games with 15 members from each side.

The was the first time professional boxers were allowed to compete in Olympics.

The first hole-in-one during an Olympic golf tournament was achieved by England's Justin Rose,on the 189-yard, par-3 fourth hole at the Olympic golf course.

First Women's Football shootout - United States vs Sweden

Nicole Adams from Great Britain became the first female boxer to defend an Olympic title in two consecutive games.

Andy Murray became the first player to win singles gold at two consecutive Olympics.

Japanese wrestler Kaori Icho became the first female athlete to win four individual gold medals at four consecutive Games. (2004-16)

Usain Bolt became the first athlete to win two individual events for three consecutive Olympics.

Michael Phelps became the first swimmer to win four consecutive gold medals in an individual event (200m Individual Medley) at four consecutive Olympics.

Kim Rhode became the first olympian from the Summer Games to win individual medals in six consecutive Olympics.

Kim Rhode also became the first Olympian to win Olympic medals in 5 different continents.

Anthony Ervin became the first swimmer to win gold in the same individual event 16 years apart (2000 & 2016 in the 50m FR).

Debut appearances
