VIDEO | Rahkeem Cornwall’s inattention results in hysterical runout in CPL
Rahkeem Cornwall was involved in an amusing runout in the CPL match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday as his team went on to lose. After his partner had nudged the ball away for an easy single, Cornwall failed to ground his bat despite reaching the crease leading to his dismissal.
In a highly entertaining match that saw a couple of brilliant batting performances from either team, it was a hilarious moment in the first quarter of the match that managed to make the most highlight reels in the Caribbean Premier League match between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and St. Lucia Zouks on Wednesday.
Having won the toss and chose to bat first, explosive all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall was seen opening the batting. He stood on six runs off 12 balls in the sixth over when the incident happened. On the third ball of off-spinner Chris Green’s bowling, Colin Ingram who had only just come in after a wicket, deftly played the ball behind the wicket. Looking to pierce the gap between third-man and point, his effort was stopped by Imran Tahir within the circle allowing an easy single.
The leg spinner was quick to return the ball to the wicket keeper who took off the bails in an instant. Cornwall, having already reached the crease, seemed to be secure with only a couple of casual appeals. However, replays showed that even though the batsman was well past the crease, he had failed to drag in his bat and with his foot in the air, he would have to return back to the pavilion. Cornwall had just failed to practice the basics of the game and the memory might be haunting him for a long time to come.
The incident was made even more painful for him as his team went on to lose the match by eight wickets with 10 balls to spare a brilliant 81 off 59 by Brandon King.
