Former Indian women's captain, Diana Edulji, has revealed that Harmanpreet Kaur was inducted into the Western Railways after she had forwarded the request to Sachin Tendulkar. Kaur's unbeaten 171 guided India into the finals of the Women's World Cup on Thursday - the first time in 12 years.

Harmanpreet Kaur has become a familiar name amongst Indian fans after the 28-year old battered the Australian bowling attack in the semi-final of the ICC Women's World Cup and helped India to reach their second final in the history of the competition. However, former Indian women's captain and the current member of Committee of Administrators, Diana Edjuli revealed that she had been monitoring the explosive batswoman's game since her early days.

Edjuli's expert eye had spotted the Punjab's player potential in 2014 when she insisted Kaur on moving to Mumbai and joining a city-based team. However, Kaur, then 24, then was reluctant to the offer owing to a job opportunity offered by the Northern Railways and only a similar or higher position could have changed her mind.

“I told her, ‘I will get you a higher post’, She was getting a junior class in Northern Railway. I offered her a chief office superintendent post. Her application was later sent to Delhi, but was rejected by the president.” Edjuli told Indian Express.

Following the rejection by President, Edjuli wrote to Sachin Tendulkar, requesting him to write a letter to the Railway Minister recommending Kaur for the job. Tendulkar's letter and Edjuli's persistent efforts resulted in Kaur eventually bagging the job.

The Indian women's team will take on hosts England on Sunday at Lords in a bid to win their first World Cup and Kaur is expected to play a pivotal role in the final of the Women's World Cup.
