VIDEO | Carlos Brathwaite and Nicholas Pooran literally LOL at Bangladesh’s fielding screw-up
Though Bangladesh have come a long way in terms of cricket, their tendency to bottle up in fielding during crunch situations have become a trademark now. A similar incident was seen during their final match against Windies that led to Carlos Brathwaite and Nicholas Pooran to laugh at their blunder.
It has become a regular thing for Windies batting now where the top order starts strongly before the bottom order fails to extend the momentum with the team eventually failing. After losing the second T20I following Rovman Powell’s heroic 50-run knock, the team failed to chase a target of 212. The scenario wasn’t any different on Saturday in the three-match series decider.
The visitors got a mammoth start banking on Evin Lewis’ gobsmacking 36-ball-89 knock opening the match. Apart from Mahumudullah, no Bangladeshi bowlers were spared by the southpaw with Windies losing their first wicket in Shai Hope after reaching 79 runs within the first five overs itself.
Fans wanted Lewis to continue for as long as they could for they knew the tremendous inconsistency of their middle order. And their fears were well-founded as soon after his dismissal, Keemo Paul, Powell and, Shimron Hetmeyer, all returned back to the pavilion. Pooran and Brathwaite were their last hopes in what looked like a Bangladesh comeback. And it could have been so had the hosts not fumbled massively just two balls after Powell’s wicket.
Mahumudullah’s delivery hit the pads of Pooran and the ball didn’t go past the square. The southpaw, after an initial call, was quick to send his partner back but he was almost half-way down the track by then. But, neither could wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim collect the ball well, nor did his throw at the other end up in the bowler’s hands near the wickets. A struggling Brathwaite, who had jumped to get back into the crease, was seen getting up and struggling to stop a laugh with Pooran at Bangladesh’s epic fielding mishap.
