Sourav Ganguly to miss MCC meeting to take care of his ailing mother
Sourav Ganguly will miss the biannual Marylebone Cricket Club World Cricket Committee meeting for members scheduled for Sunday and Monday in order to look after his ailing mother. The members meet at Lords’ to discuss issues prevailing in the cricketing world and try to come up with solutions.
Sourav Ganguly has stated that he would not be able to attend the upcoming MCC meeting as he has to attend to her ill mother while she undergoes treatment. The former Indian skipper was awarded honorary life membership by the prestigious MCC four years ago, having already been a part of the committee for a year by then.
"My mother is not well. We may have to take her somewhere else for treatment so I'm not attending the meeting," Ganguly was reported saying by India Today.
The club, based at Lord’s which is widely renowned as the Home of Cricket, plays an important role in shaping up international cricket by making major decisions regarding controversies and issues surrounding the game. They are also the custodian of international laws and are likely to discuss the overthrow rule in the meeting scheduled on the 11th and 12th of August after the bizarre incident in the World Cup final.
Ganguly has had a long and fruitful association with the ground and some of his most memorable moments have taken place there. He made his international Test debut at the revered venue and scored a century, earning a place in the ground’s honours board, before performing his famous celebration by taking his shirt off six years later. The match was later named the greatest ever match held at the iconic venue after a poll conducted by the ground’s official website.
