Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann has admitted that winning El Clasico won’t be easy if the team doesn’t improve from the performance that they displayed against Real Sociedad. The Blaugrana and La Real walked away with a point each in a highly controversial 2-2 draw at the Anoeta.

Barcelona striker Antoine Greizmann scored against his former club Real Sociedad at the Anoeta stadium as the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Luis Suarez was the other goalscorer for the Catalans with Mikel Oyrazabal and Alexander Isak on the scoresheet for Sociedad. Barcelona left the Reale Arena feeling a little hard done by as Gerard Pique appeared to have been pulled back by Diego Llorente inside the penalty area.

In the dying moments of the game with the score at 2-2, the Barcelona centre-back was upended by Llorente, leaving the Catalans outraged. Real Sociedad were awarded a penalty in the first half for a similar offence making the whole episode more controversial. Former La Real player Griezmann has admitted that his current team, Barcelona, need to improve to win the Clasico that is to be played on 18th December.

“I think both teams had their moments. When we equalised, we were playing well - full of confidence and creating chances. Then they levelled and had their chances to take the game. They also had control of the ball. It's a shame to draw but we gave everything we had. We have to learn from this game and improve when we meet Real Madrid in El Clasico. I don't know. I'll have to watch the game again but both teams had chances to win. Now we have El Clásico, we'll see what happens,” said Griezmann to AS.

Griezmann played 202 games for Sociedad and scored 52 goals and provided 18 assists in his time at the Anoeta before moving to Atletico Madrid in 2014. The French attacker refrained from scoring against his former employers and paid a sign of respect to the club and fans. He did not mention or comment on the controversial penalty call and the appeal by Pique.

“I'll never celebrate if I score here. I scored here when it was the old Anoeta but I have a lot of respect for those who gave me everything. As I say, little by little I'm feeling better. I'm happy with my performances and off the pitch - within the squad, everything's going well. And will only get better,” concluded the 28-year-old.
