Reports | Aaron Wan-Bissaka withdraws from England squad with back injury
Manchester United defender Aaron wan Bissaka has pulled out of the England squad ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifiers following a serious back injury. However, Gareth Southgate has not replaced the 21-year-old, as Trent Alexander Arnold and Kieran Trippier were already included in the 24-man squad.
Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s first England cap will have to wait a few more months, with the 21-year-old stepping out with a back injury reports the BBC. The former Crystal Palace full-back has settled in very well at Old Trafford, starting the first four games for the club. This earned him a call-up for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier.
It’s also why England manager Gareth Southgate has decided not to call up anyone as a replacement for Aaron wan Bissaka, as he is set to put his faith in the players he has called up to the squad. The Three Lions will host Bulgaria at Wembley stadium on Saturday and will face Kosovo at Southampton's home ground, St. Mary's Park in their first two qualifiers for the 2020 Euros.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka has withdrawn from the England squad. The Manchester United right-back has returned to his club due to a back issue. With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier already included in Gareth Southgate’s now 24-man squad, no replacements are planned,” said a statement from the English FA.
Making his debut in the Premier League only last year, the full-back has impressed the world with his performances for the Red Devils so far and earned his first call up to the senior England squad. Speaking about the Wan-Bissaka's move to Manchester United, Southgate had a lot to say.
"We tracked him very closely last year, and we thought he had an outstanding season last season, but we wanted him to stay with the Under-21 group, Aaron adapted very well to a high-profile move with the intensity and pressure. We’re looking at him and Trent and that’s the reason on this occasion that Kyle Walker isn’t with us, we feel it’s an opportunity in particular to have a look at two young players," said Southgate reports Sky Sports.
