Reports | Bayern Munich drop hints as to why Leroy Sane was not signed
Manchester City star Leroy Sane's potential move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich was under intense speculation during the transfer window. However, the move failed to materialise and now the German club have dropped a hint citing that the former Schalke player’s excess wage demands.
Bayern Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was questioned about the failed move for Leroy Sane, and he dropped a hint that the problem was financial reports the Manchester Evening News. Salihamidzic did not comment when he was asked if Sane could not be signed due to his injury but suggested that there were financial problems.
He also suggested that meeting Sane’s wage requirements would break the club’s wage structure that is currently in place. Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski earns £350,000 a week, and Salihamidzic spoke about the need to stick to the salary structure “if only because we cannot afford to do otherwise.''
It has also been suspected that Sane was using the German champions’ interest in him so that he could get an improved deal from Manchester City, where he would have made £170,000 a week. The Cityzen’s new kit sponsor, Puma, have also been eyeing up a lucrative boot deal for the 23-year-old winger.
Bayern Munich consider Sane as the ideal replacement for two of its stalwarts, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, who left the club this summer. It is expected that the club will make a bid for Sane in the January transfer window, provided that he is fit, while City fear that the German international’s value will start to fall next summer.
