ICC to take disciplinary action Ajman All Stars league’s players

The Ajman All-Stars league is a private league that was being played in the United Arab Emirates. In a match played on January 24, Sharjah Warriors put a modest total of 136 runs from their quota of 20 overs but the Dubai Stars could only manage 46 runs in reply. A video of the matched surfaced online which showed the bizarre dismissals of the Dubai Stars batsmen, who were gifting away their wickets to the opposition. The video showed that Dubai Stars losing five wickets through stumpings and three via run-outs, which all looked suicidal at first glance.

ICC General Manager of Anti-Corruption, Alex Marshall, explained

ICC General Manager of Anti-Corruption, Alex Marshall, confirmed that the ICC had investigated the incident and they would be taking action against all the guilty players.

“However after speaking to a number of those involved we consider there to be strong evidence to indicate this was a corrupt event and damaging to the wider reputation of cricket and as such will continue the investigation,” Marshall was quoted as saying in an ICC release.

On the second day of the league, the Ajman Cricket Council called off the league and suspended the Ajman Oval with immediate effect. Though this league does not fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC, the governing body said that they had to step in to prevent damaging cricket’s reputation in the world.

“Our focus now is on identifying the organizers of the tournament to prevent similar incidents occurring elsewhere and to disrupt corrupt practices wherever we can,” Marshall added.

“All Member Boards whose players have participated in this event will be asked to consider whether by doing so, those players are in breach of any other applicable rules, including those that prohibit participation in unsanctioned cricket, and if so for disciplinary action to be taken against them.”
