Agents to be part of each team in BPL to counter corruption, says Nazmul Hasan

While Mohammad Ashraful’s ban for being involved in match-fixing halted the tournament for a while, the board is more concerned with the latest blow that came in the form of their limited-overs skipper Shakib Al Hasan’s suspension by the ICC on corruption charges. Nazmul said on Friday that the board is willing to spend extra to make sure the upcoming edition is secure and added a warning for any team or individual found guilty.

"There will be an anti-corruption agent with each of the teams in this BPL. It was always there but now that is more intensified [after the Shakib incident] and it is getting bigger with each passing day. All we have to do is bear the extra expenses because if you assign a person for each and every team, he should be given a salary and also you have to provide him with the food and accommodation. But we instantly agreed with this. We just want to keep everything secure. Whatever the ACU members are advising, we are doing that,'' Nazmul said, reported Cricbuzz. 

Ahead of this year’s edition of the tournament, the board had to ban Shakeel Abedin, the logistics manager of the Chittagong Vikings, for making corrupt approaches last time around. The ACU came to the decision after investigations based on the complaints of two players in the Vikings squad.

''Usually, we don't recruit them, rather we appoint them. The member of the ACU generally comes from the Army. Every team will be given training on corruption issues. Those who are the sponsors of the team will do the things accordingly. We will not interfere with it. We, in fact, don't want to know what ACU is doing. I think they should be given the freedom to work independently,'' Nazmul concluded.
