Former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka is looking to make her return to competitive tennis at the Wimbledon in July following the birth of her son. The 27-year-old Belarusian ace, who was No 1 in 2012 and 2013, has not played since last year's French Open in May and gave birth to son Leo in December.

Azarenka went on a break last July to prepare for childbirth and had previously been targeting a return at the Bank of the West Classic in California, which begins on July 31 in Stanford but now hopes to play at the All England Club with the tournament due to start on July 3.

"I have some good news," she posted on her official Twitter account (@vika7).

"My training has been progressing well and I feel ready to start competing...plus Leo kinda said he wants to see London and Wimbledon.

"I will be finalizing my schedule before Wimbledon in the coming days - I plan to play one of the grass court events prior to Wimbledon. I will keep you updated. Thank you for all your support."

As per the WTA rules, the Belarusian is eligible to retain her ranking as world No 6 as she is ready to play her first tournament within 12 months of giving birth.

Azarenka won two back-to-back Australian Open titles in 2012 and 2013 and also reached US Open final twice in her career. Her best performances at Wimbledon came in 2011 and 2012 when she reached the semi-finals.
