Ajinkya Rahane backs underfire Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara to come out good
Backing Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane has stated that it takes only one innings for a player to get back into form and these two are really quality players. These two top-order batsmen have been struggling for runs just ahead of the five-match Test series against England.
The pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara were seen struggling for runs just ahead of the five-match Test match series against England. While Shikhar Dhawan scored a pair in the three-day practice match against Essex, Cheteshwar Pujara, playing for Yorkshire in the county cricket, was able to gather an average of just 14.33 from 12 innings.
Indian Vice Captain, Ajinkya Rahane has backed both the players, stating that both of them are quality players, who'll come to the surface in the Test matches against England. He further mentioned that the players should maintain their own strengths, rather than changing their styles.
“We are not worried at all, because both are really quality batsmen. It just takes one good
“As a batting unit, I feel that challenging yourself and backing your own game – rather than copying someone else – is important. If you’re set here, you should really make it count. I feel that in terms of skill, both teams are on a par. It will be a test of our mind and character here,” he added.
Rahane, India's most successful overseas batsman and the fulcrum of India's historic Lord's victory in 2014, believes that there are obviously differences in the Indian conditions and English weather, but it is futile to think too much about it.
“Playing in England is always a challenge... (but) if you think about the result you put pressure on yourself. This time we just want to express ourselves. Personally, I enjoy those challenges, playing abroad. You know here in England the ball does a bit, in Australia, there’s bounce, again in New Zealand the ball does a bit... I’m really looking forward to this series,” Rahane said.
