BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the selectors may be given a tenure of three years to ensure freshness of the panel. The Committee of Administrators had amended the constitution and changed the tenure of selectors from four to five years but it seems like it is set to change again.

The BCCI constitution has undergone several amendments off late and one of them has been the tenure of the national selectors. When the Committee of Administrators (COA) was in office, they had amended the tenure from four to five years but once they left their posts, the original rule of four years was re-applied which meant that the current selection panel has served its tenure and is set to be replaced by a new set of national selectors. There is a possibility that the BCCI's constitution may be amended again to change the tenure of the new selection panel to three years according to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

"The four-year term was designed keeping in mind the ICC World Cup cycle. But that's a thing of the past now. A three-year stint can be introduced to keep things fresh and in perspective," Ganguly told TOI.

The four-year term has been served by chief selector MSK Prasad and his colleague Gagan Khoda from the Central Zone are expected to exit from the selection panel. The remaining three selectors Jatin Paranjape, Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi will continue to serve for another year.

"Dilip (Vengsarkar) is keen too. He had not completed his term the last time around. But, if Paranjpe is set to continue for another year then one will have to wait and see. Let's see what Sourav and Jay have in mind," one of the sources close to the development told TOI.

Former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramanakrishnan is the favourite to replace MSK Prasad as the chief selector as Prasad's exit means that the BCCi will have to select a new member from the South Zone.
